Sublime Horror only existed for a short time but, while it did, it offered a home to reviews and articles on exactly the kind of quiet, unsettling horror I absolutely love. I was pleased to be a small part of the team that contributed to it. The Sublime Horror website is still up but who knows how long for so I’ve started collecting some of my work from that period and hosting it on my blog.
The first selection, a mixed bag of fiction and non-fiction book reviews, is now available. Here you’ll find my thoughts on a couple of The British Library’s Tales of the Weird series, books about Gothic remixes and girls’ “mystery papers” as well as a bit of film theory.
I may look next at some of the other orphaned reviews I’ve written for various now-defunct outlets so keep an eye on the blog or for another one of these digests.
Otherwise my next new review will be of The Flaw in the Crystal: And Other Uncanny Stories, a collection of May Sinclair’s uncanny tales and another entry in the Tales of the Weird series, which I’m currently working on for the What Sleeps Beneath online magazine.
All the best,
Dan
